Suntara was established by Dr Stephen Scott.
Dr Stephen Scott joined the Prince of Wales practice in 2002. He qualified at Birmingham University in 1984. After qualifying he joined the RAF as a Medical Officer (Squadron Leader) and then with his wife and family volunteering in Nepal before returning to Dorchester in 2000.
Since 2006 he has been Appraisal Lead for Dorset. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of GPs in 2014 for his work in Nepal and the Revalidation and Appraisal Service.
Steve performs minor surgical procedures for the Clinical Commissioning Group, as a GP with Specialist Interest
“I wanted to be a surgeon when I grew up, but then I grew up, and decided to be a GP instead. I’ve always kept up my surgical interest and skills and have continued to operate wherever I have worked, in the RAF around the world and then in Nepal when we volunteered for 3 years. I’m a member of the Association of Surgeons in Primary Care and work closely with the local Dermatologists, and my work is fully indemnified by the MPS”
Suntara means “lovely or beautiful” in Nepali.
Dr Scott and his wife Kathy (also a GP) lived with their 3 children in Nepal between 1997 and 2000. Steve worked in the A&E department of a remote government hospital and Kathy with patients suffering from Leprosy. This time has naturally had a lasting impact on the whole family and the realisation that the value of a person is deep within them not their outward appearance nor in their circumstances.
